Hit a pothole today and it tore a piece of my sidewall off.
185/65/r14
discount tire
$40 max
Which tire does OPPO go for?

That’s a pretty gnarly looking hole. Must have been one hell of a pothole.
Never heard of either of those brands, so I can’t really say much one way or the other. I guess I’d go with the one with the higher treadwear rating, but even that’s only a 5k difference.

Eh, for that price it doesn’t matter. A new tire is a new tire.

It was scary. And being a poor student this is about all I can afford for tires.

Kinda what I’m thinking too.

Pfffft. Duct tape.

Despite the fact that I think you should spend more on your tires (I know that’s not always feasible, just saying it). I would pick whatever the hell a ohtsu is...
Only because it has better ratings in every category that isn’t tread life warranty.
But I think we can both agree you’re not spending $36 bucks on a tire to get 10 years out of it.
EDIT: Also why aren’t you using the stock size?

Assuming you’re in Denver by your Discount Tires link, you might see if there’s a Firestone local to you. http://www.firestonecompleteautocare.com/tire_pricing/s…
My wife usually gets the Primewells on her Corolla, and they're not bad for a cheap tire. She's on her second set now, got about 40k out of the last set.

Stock was 175/65/r14.
The tires on it are 185/65/r14.
185’s are cheaper. The previous owner probably got these for the same reason.
I work 16 hours a week, minimum wage. These are the best I can afford for a few months.

What about a used tire from the junkyard? Read up on DOT date codes and go hunting!

I’ll look in to it. Just looking for something cheap.
I’m in Denver, yeah.

I get it. Was looking to see if 175’s were cheaper, but if all the others are 185’s the obvious choice is to stick with it. fyi there’s another of those ohtsu tires that has a higher treadwear rating for 2 more dollars, it doesn’t have reviews on any other category though.

I’ll check.
I’m going to do all 4. The others are getting bad enough to spin in rain. (115 hp, fwd)

Might.

Black ones that are round are usually good.

Go with the one with the longer warranty.

Love my Ohtsu’s. Extreme value for the price. Best tire’s I’ve used yet.

i had cheap chinese tyres on my car , but they lack grip , so i went back to Bridgestones , much better , for me , it was worth the extra money.

Broke student. I have $240 to my name right now.

I too can attest to the quality of primewells. I got a set for about $200 for an old volvo, and they were pretty damn good. They even got me out of a mudpit.

I’ve decided on them if I don’t get the car I want.
(A friend is selling a 99 sentra auto, I want it as a parts car, tires and brakes come with it. )

Months too late, but I ended up with the Primewell Valera Touring tire. So far they’ve been great. Thanks for the help.
